The Neuroprotective Effects Of Eritropoietin In The Central Nervous System

Öz

Erythropoietin (Epo) acts primarily to stimulate erythroid cell production by supporting thesurvival, proliferation and differentiation of erythroid progenitor cells but It is now widelyknown that erythropoietin does not only affect the haematopoietic system. Erythropoietin has adominant role for neuroprotection, neurogenesis, and acting as a neurotrophic factor in thecentral nervous system. A wide variety of experimental studies have shown that Epo and itsreceptor are expressed in the nervous system also Epo exerts remarkable neuroprotection in cellculture and animal models of nervous system disorders. The discovery that erythropoietin exertsneuroprotective properties has opened new therapeutic avenues. In this review, we summarizethe current knowledge on the neuroprotective properties of Epo

Eritropoetinin Santral Sinir Sistemindeki Nöroprotektif Etkileri

Öz

Eritropoietin (Epo), esas olarak eritroid progenitör hücrelerin proliferasyonu, farklılaşması vedevamlılığını destekleyerek eritroid hücre üretimini uyarır. Ancak Epo’nun sadece hematopoetiksistemde etki etmediği artık yaygın olarak bilinmektedir. Eritropoetin santral sinir sistemindenöroprotektif etkili, nörogenezde baskın bir role sahip ve nörotrofik bir faktör olarak etkigöstermektedir. Çok çeşitli deneysel çalışmalar Epo ve reseptörünün sinir sisteminde varlığınıortaya koymuştur. Ayrıca Epo, hücre kültürü ve sinir sistemi bozukluklarının oluşturulduğuhayvan modellerinde belirgin nöroprotektif etki göstermektedir. Eritropoetinin nöroprotektifetkisinin keşfi yeni tedavi yollarının açığa çıkmasını sağlamıştır. Biz bu derlemede, Epo’nunmevcut nöroprotektif özellikleri hakkındaki bilgileri özetlemekteyiz
