Purpose: To investigate the effect of acidic beverage, home bleaching, acidulated phosphate fluoride (APF), and immune-boosting beverage with Sambucus Nigra on color of restorative materials.
Materials and Methods: 84 nanohybrid composite resin (NCR) and CAD-CAM feldspathic ceramic (FC) specimens (1.5 mm-thick) were prepared. The specimens were first subdivided into FCA, FCB, NCRA, NCRB, then distilled water (DIS), lemon juice (LEJ), home bleaching (BA). Measurements were taken after 2 weeks of applications (App1). After App1, FCA and NCRA were kept in Sambucus Nigra beverage (SAM), while FCB and NCRB were kept in SAM after APF (APFSAM). Measurements were taken on 12th and 24th day (App2). The effects on color of App1 and App1+App2 were analyzed by ANOVA and Bonferroni tests.
Results: For App1, the effect of material, App1 and material-App1 on color was statistically significant (p<0.05). The least color change was found in DIS-FC (∆E=0.4; p=0.0084) and the most in BA-NCR (∆E=2.9; p<0.0112). For App1+App2, the effect of material on color was statistically significant (p<0.05). For App2, the least color change for SAM was reported in FCA on day 12 (∆E=1.0) and the most in NCRA on day 12 (∆E=2.1) (p=0.0057). For APFSAM, the least color change was reported in FCA on day 12 (∆E=0.5) and the most color change was detected in NCRA on day 12 (∆E=2.0) (p=0.0002).
Conclusions: Nanohybrid composite resin was more affected by BA and SAM and less affected by LEJ compared to feldspathic ceramic. In SAM, prior APF treatment did not affect the color.
Since present study was an in vitro study in which humans and animals, including material/data, were not used for experimental purposes, ethical approval was not required.
