Transmigrant Mandibular Canine: A case report

Year 2009, Volume: 36 Issue: 3 - Volume: 36 Issue: 3, 173 - 175, 01.08.2009

Abstract

Transmigration has been termed the movement of an unerupted canine across the midline that means canine migrates to the other side of the mandible, crossing the mandibular midline in the absence of pathology or trauma. The etiology of transmigrant teeth is not known although it is thought to be the result of malpositioning of the dental lamina during the embryonic stage of tooth development. The transmigrant mandibular canine is a rare phenomenon. Women are affected more than men. Transmigration is generally unilateral and asymptomatic. In intraoral examination abnormal retention of the primary canine suggest the presence of impacted teeth. Definite diagnosis should diagnose by radiological examination. This rare condition usually requires extraction of the involved tooth because orthodontic forces are seldom successful at erupting these teeth into their proper location. This case presentation is based on 16 years old male, who is applied to Ankara University Department of Dentistry, has right mandibular canine teeth transmigration.

Transmigrant mandibuler kanin: bir olgu sunumu

Year 2009, Volume: 36 Issue: 3 - Volume: 36 Issue: 3, 173 - 175, 01.08.2009

Abstract

Transmigrasyon; gömük kalmış, diş arkında yerini alamamış olan kanin dişinin herhangi bir patoloji veya travma olmaksızın orta hattı geçip karşıt arka yerleşmesiyle gelişir. Transmigrasyonun etiyolojisi tam olarak bilinmemekle beraber embriyonal dönemdeki diş gelişimi esnasında dental laminanın malpozisyonu ile ilişkilendirilmektedir.Transmigrant mandibuler kanin nadir rastlanan bir olgudur. Kadınlarda ve unilateral olarak daha sık görülür. Çoğu hastada herhangi semptom vermez. İntraoral muayenede persiste süt dişleri gömük diş konusunda uyarıcı olabilir. Yapılacak radyolojik muayene ile kesin tanıya gidilmelidir. Ortodontik tedavinin gömülü dişi yerine sürdürmedeki başarısının düşük olması sebebiyle transmigrasyona uğramış dişlerin genellikle çekimi gereklidir. Bu vaka sunumunda Ankara Üniversitesi Diş Hekimliği Fakültesine başvuran 16 yaşındaki bir erkek hastanın sağ mandibuler kanin dişinin transmigrasyonuna değinilmektedir
