Impact of Wood Species and Chainsaw Speed on the Noise Level of Electric Chainsaws

Abstract

An experiment was conducted at the College of Medicinal and Industrial Plants, University of Kirkuk, to determine the noise level caused by cutting trees with an electric chainsaw. A randomized complete block design (RCBD) with three replications was used to conduct a factorial experiment with two factors: wood species (Pine and Eucalyptus) and saw cutting speed (342.3 and 434.6 rpm). The results showed that the interference treatment at a cutting speed of 342.3 rpm with Eucalyptus wood was effective (14.67 dB). Meanwhile, Pine wood at the lower speed (29.47 dB) was found to produce higher noise levels. This study demonstrates that the noise level produced by an electric chainsaw is significantly influenced by the relationship between cutting speed and wood species.
