Thiazole: A promising scaffold in medicinal chemistry
Abstract
Thiazole, a five-membered heterocyclic skeleton found in numerous commercially marketed drugs and various natural products, has gained significant attention in the field of medicinal chemistry. Thiazole derivatives have diverse therapeutic potential, including neuroprotective, antidiabetic, antioxidant, antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, anticancer, antihypertensive, and antitubercular activities. The unique electronic and pharmacophoric features of the thiazole ring facilitate specific interactions with various biological targets. This review covers and highlights the most recently reported studies on thiazole-based derivatives with pharmacological potential.
