Contemporary Approaches to the Crooked Nose: Structural Foundations, Preservation Concepts, and Camouflage Options

Abstract

Objectives: In this paper, crooked nose and management were reviewed. Methods: For the literature search, Google, Google Scholar, PubMed, and Proquest Central databases were used. Results: The term "crooked nose" is commonly used for all clinical conditions involving deviation of the nasal pyramid from the midline. The “crooked nose” is often encountered in clinical practice today due to blunt trauma from sports injuries or car accidents. Neglected or partially reduced nasal fractures usually lead to a crooked nose with surface depressions and irregularities. Both closed and open reduction techniques are used. Unilateral osteotomies can be performed in some cases, but it is more common to use medial and lateral osteotomies. In severe deviation cases, a cross-root osteotomy can be performed. Significant progress in correcting dorsal deviations has been made with the use of spreader grafts. Septal crossbar grafts are also utilized. Conclusion: Structural grafting and camouflage techniques are essential. Spreader grafts and septal crossbar grafts are primarily used in patients with crooked noses.
