<p>In this study, we use the 2005–2019 TurkStat Household Labour Force Surveys to examine the changes in worker flows in Turkey and how different demographic groups are affected by these changes. We then estimate wage differentials between workers who started their current job within the last 12 months and those who have been employed in the same job for more than a year, taking tenure into account. Our descriptive analyses indicate that, due to the increase in worker turnover, labor market stratification has deepened, and a group of workers appears to be trapped in a cycle of temporary/low-quality jobs and unemployment. Regarding the impact of changes in worker flows on wages, our findings show that workers who changed jobs within the last 12 months earn lower wages compared to those who remained in their ongoing jobs. Moreover, our results suggest that when the returns to experience are high, job switching may become more costly.</p></trans-abstract>
