Cigarette smoke is a basic public health problem, harming not only to the smoker ,but also to those who are found in the same environment. This is the reason that children are under this threat. Today, this issue has gained importance in terms of dentistry. There are studies reporting that smoking during pregnancy affects the development and function of teeth, increases the risk of dental caries, causes cleft lip and palate and hypoplasia of primary teeth. In particular, maternal smoking was accepted as one of the important risk factors for caries development. Cigarette smoke exposure has been shown to be a destructive factor in pediatric patients with a high incidence of caries. Currently, the rate of smoking and tobacco use continues to increase, more research should be done on the effects of oral health on children as well as the general health of children and parents should be informed more on this issue. In this review, the effects of passive smoking on children's oral and dental health are discussed in the light of current literature.
