An Analysis of the Problems Zeki Müren's and Bülent Ersoy's Queer Masculinity/Femininity Performances

In Turkish culture people like to watch/listen musicians who owned ara- besque and Turkish classical music as their music genre and we can show Zeki Müren and Bülent Ersoy as greatest examples for that kind of music. About these two musicians, there is another important issue. Both of them confused Turkish people’s minds about traditional gender roles in Turkey; Zeki Müren known for his sexual orientation for young boys and feminine style and Bülent Ersoy had a gender-change surgery in 1981 -in England- and become a first trans-gendered singer in Turkish Republic. Both, Ersoy and Müren faced with problems in creation of coherent relationship between their musical performances and private life. To add, their stand- point in front of LGBTI individuals differs into Turkish society. This ar- ticle aims to explain and analyze the reasons behind several problems which related with queer performances of Ersoy and Müren by giving a brief description of their backgrounds and speeches.

Zeki Müren ve Bülent Ersoy'un Erkeklik / Kadınlık Queer Performans Sorunlarının Analizi

Öz

Türk kültüründe insanlar, türkçe ve klasik Türk müziğine sahip müzisyenleri müzik türü olarak izlemeyi / dinlemeyi severler ve Zeki Müren ve Bülent Ersoy'u bu tür müzik için en güzel örnek olarak gösterebiliriz. Bu iki müzisyen hakkında, önemli bir konu daha var. Her ikisi de, Türk halkının Türkiye'deki geleneksel cinsiyet rolleriyle ilgili akıllarını karıştırdı; Genç erkekler ve kadınsı tarzlar için cinsel yönelimi ile tanınan Zeki Müren ve Bülent Ersoy 1981’de İngiltere’de cinsiyet değişikliği operasyonu geçirdi ve Türkiye’de ilk trans cinsiyetçi şarkıcı oldu. Hem Ersoy hem de Müren, müzikal performansları ile özel yaşamları arasında tutarlı bir ilişki kurulmasında sorunlar yaşadı. Ek olarak, LGBT'li bireylerin önündeki bakış açıları Türk toplumuna farklılık göstermektedir. Bu makale, Ersoy ve Müren'in queer performanslarıyla ilgili birçok sorunun arkasındaki nedenleri, geçmişlerini ve konuşmalarını kısaca açıklayarak açıklamayı ve analiz etmeyi amaçlamaktadır.
