Hasan Topaçoğlu’nun editörlüğünü yaptığı “100 Years of Turkish-Japanese Relations: From History to Economy, Culture to Arts” (Routledge, 2025), kitabı kültürel açıdan Türk-Japon ilişkilerinin 100 yıllık sürecine farklı perspektiflerden bakan ve bu ilişkileri olumlu ve olumsuz yönleriyle tartışmaya açmaktadır. Kitap; tarih, ekonomi politik ve kültür ekseninde Selçuk Esenbel’in “güven ağı” (trust-network ) kavramından Mutlu Binark’ın self-oryantalizm eleştirisine uzanan özgün katkılar sunmasının yanı sıra modernleşme olgusunu da ihmal etmektedir. Tüm bunlara karşın kitabın “dostluk” ekseninde ilişkileri derinleştirmeye dikkat çekmeksi ve bu bağlamda ikinci yüzyıl için görsel diplomasinin revizyonu, çeviri politikalarının bilinçli tasarımı ve dijital etkileşimin kurumsallaştırılması gerektiğini savunması oldukça önemlidir.
Edited by Hasan Topaçoğlu, “100 Years of Turkish-Japanese Relations: From History to Economy, Culture to Arts” (Routledge, 2025) approaches the centennial of Turkish-Japanese relations from various cultural perspectives and opens these relations to discussion in terms of both their positive and negative aspects. The book offers original contributions along the axes of history, political economy, and culture—ranging from Selçuk Esenbel’s concept of the “trust-network” to Mutlu Binark’s critique of “self-Orientalism”—while also neglecting the phenomenon of modernization. Nevertheless, the book’s emphasis on deepening relations around the axis of “friendship” and its argument that the second century requires a revision of visual diplomacy, a conscious design of translation policies, and the institutionalization of digital interaction are of great significance.
