Professor Necati Öner thinks that, like all conscious actions of humanbeings, education is also based on the problem of knowledge. According to him, the primary aim of the educational institutions is to provide students with four types of knowledge; religion, philosophy, art, and especially science. In addition to this aim, they also should give the students a critical attitude and mindset in order to establish a civilized, tolerant society. Öner, who thinks that the value system which is the basis of the attitudes that will be gained through education and training should be gained in training activities as well. In this respect, he attributes importance to national culture. Drawing attention to the relations between language, thought and culture in the context of national culture, he reminds us that these issues should not be ignored in the education system. He emphasizes the need to reach to the universal by moving from national culture and to contribute to the civilization through appropriate education. For Öner, education should be reinforced with philosophy as an activity that constructs a mindset and establishes a culture of living together. This studypresents the place of education in the thought of Öner, who contributed to education in many ways throughout his life.
Prof.Dr. Necati Öner, insanın tüm bilinçli eylemleri gibi eğitimin de bilgi sorununa dayandığını düşünür. Ona göre öğretim kurumları, bilgi türlerinden dördünü; bilim ağırlıklı olmak üzere din, felsefe, bilim ve sanatı kazandırmak temel amacı yanında öğrencilere medeni, hoşgörülü bir toplum tesis etmek için eleştirel tutum, zihniyet de kazandırmalıdır. Eğitim ve öğretim yoluyla kazandırılacak tutumların temelindeki değer sisteminin de eğitim faaliyetinde kazandırılması gerektiğini düşünen Öner, bu açıdan milli kültüre önem atfeder. Milli kültür bağlamında dil, düşünce, kültür arasındaki ilişkilere de dikkat çekerek eğitim sisteminde bu hususların göz ardı edilmemesi gereğini hatırlatır. O, uygun bir eğitimle milli kültürden çıkıp üniversel olana ulaşmak ve medeniyete katkıda bulunmak gerektiğini vurgular. Öner, zihniyet inşa eden ve birlikte yaşamayı tesis edecek bir faaliyet olarak eğitimin felsefe ile sağlamlaştırılması gerektiğini düşünür. Bu çalışma, yaşamı boyunca eğitime birçok açıdan katkılarda bulunan Prof. Dr. Necati Öner’in düşüncesinde eğitimin yerini ortaya koymaktadır.
