Öz

Smile is one of the most important elements in dentofacial aesthetics. Smile and facial movements are highly related to communication and expression of emotions and are of great interest to orthodontists. Smile can be posed and spontaneous. Lip elevation is more frequently observed in spontaneous smiles, especially in smiles accompanied by laughter. Some appearance of gingiva during smiling is acceptable and in some cases even provides an aesthetic and youthful appearance. Gummy smile, which is known as the excessive appearance of the gingiva during smiling, can be defined as a non-pathologic condition in which the gingiva is visible more than 3-4 mm, causing aesthetic disharmony in general.
The aim of this review is to explain the characteristics of the smile, to define Gummy smile, to review the etiology and classification of Gummy smile. In the treatment of gummy smile, treatment with incisor intrusion, miniscrew-assisted treatment, orthognathic surgery treatment approaches and other treatment approaches are described.

Gummy smile ve tedavi yaklaşımları

Öz

Gülümseme dentofasiyal estetikteki en önemli unsurların başında gelmektedir. Gülümseme ve yüz hareketleri iletişim ve duyguların ifade edilmesiyle oldukça ilişkilidir ve ortodontistlerin oldukça ilgisini çekmektedir. Gülümseme; poz verilmiş ve spontan olabilir. Dudak elevasyonu spontan gülümsemede daha sık gözlenir, özellikle kahkahanın eşlik ettiği gülümsemede olur. Gülümseme sırasında gingivanın bir miktar görünümü kabul edilebilir hatta bazı durumlarda estetik ve genç görünüm sağlar. Gülümseme esnasında dişetinin fazla görünmesi olarak bilinen Gummy smile genel olarak estetik disharmoniye neden olan, dişetinin 3-4 mm’ den fazla gözüktüğü, patolojik olmayan bir durum olarak tanımlanabilir.
Bu derlemenin amacı gülümsemenin özelliklerini anlatmak, Gummy smile’ı tanımlamak, Gummy smile etiyolojisi ve sınıflandırılmasını gözden geçirmektir. Gummy smile tedavisinde keser intrüzyonu ile tedavi, mini vida destekli tedavi, ortognatik cerrahi tedavi yaklaşımları ve diğer tedavi yaklaşımlarını anlatmaktır.
