<p>This study systematically analyzes the geographical content embedded in folk songs from the Erzurum region of Türkiye, examining the extent to which these elements reflect the area&#039;s distinctive geographical characteristics. Employing a qualitative design within a descriptive framework, 288 Erzurum folk songs from the TRT Turkish Folk Music Vocal Works Anthology were examined through document and content analysis. Identified geographical elements were classified under four thematic categories physical geography, astronomical geography, human and economic geography, and regional geography and analyzed descriptively by frequency. The findings reveal rich and multidimensional geographical knowledge encompassing mountains, climatic conditions, vegetation, fauna, migration, settlements, and economic activities. The high frequency of physical geography themes closely mirrors Erzurum&#039;s rugged terrain, harsh continental climate, and steppe- and meadow-dominated landscape. Human and economic geography themes reflect local customs, culinary and clothing culture, demographic patterns, livelihoods, and architectural features, while regional geography references highlight Erzurum&#039;s historical significance and its role as a transitional corridor. The study demonstrates, through systematic empirical evidence, that Erzurum folk songs constitute a valuable oral cultural archive encoding both the physical landscape and the lived human experience of the region. The findings carry significant implications for music geography, folklore studies, and geography education, suggesting that folk songs may serve as authentic and pedagogically effective instructional materials by virtue of their rich geographical and sociocultural content.</p></trans-abstract>
