Bu çalışma, Türkiye’de merkez sağ siyasal geleneğin önemli temsilcilerinden biri olan Doğru Yol Partisi’nin siyasal gelişimini karizmatik liderlik ve parti kurumsallaşması arasındaki ilişki bağlamında incelemeyi amaçlamaktadır. 12 Eylül 1980 askeri müdahalesi sonrasında yeniden şekillenen siyasal yapı içerisinde ortaya çıkan Doğru Yol Partisi, özellikle Süleyman Demirel’in liderliğinde kısa sürede geniş bir seçmen tabanına ulaşarak Türk siyasal hayatında önemli bir aktör hâline gelmiştir. Bu bağlamda çalışma, partinin siyasal başarısının büyük ölçüde kurumsal kapasitesinden ziyade lider merkezli bir temsil ilişkisine dayandığı tezinden hareket etmektedir. Nitel araştırma yaklaşımı çerçevesinde hazırlanan çalışmada tarihsel-sosyolojik analiz yöntemi benimsenmiş; parti programları, seçim sonuçları, dönemin siyasal gelişmeleri ve ilgili literatür birlikte değerlendirilmiştir. Elde edilen bulgular, Süleyman Demirel’in pragmatik siyasal dili, ekonomik kalkınma ve toplumsal refah vurgusu ile geniş bir toplumsal meşruiyet oluşturduğunu ve bu durumun Doğru Yol Partisi’nin seçim başarılarında belirleyici bir rol oynadığını göstermektedir. Bununla birlikte lider odaklı siyasal mobilizasyonun, partinin kurumsallaşma sürecini sınırlayan yapısal bir unsur olarak ortaya çıktığı ve lider sonrası dönemde örgütsel bütünlüğün zayıflamasına yol açtığı görülmektedir. Bu yönüyle çalışma, Doğru Yol Partisi örneği üzerinden Türkiye’de merkez sağ siyasetin liderlik temelli yapısını kurumsallaşma tartışmaları çerçevesinde analiz ederek sosyal bilimler literatürüne katkı sunmayı hedeflemektedir.
This study aims to examine the political development of the True Path Party (Doğru Yol Partisi), one of the significant representatives of the center-right political tradition in Türkiye, within the framework of the relationship between charismatic leadership and party institutionalization. Emerging in the political landscape reshaped after the 1980 military intervention, the True Path Party quickly became a major political actor under the leadership of Süleyman Demirel by reaching a broad voter base. In this context, the study is based on the argument that the party’s political success largely depended on a leader-centered representation rather than its institutional capacity. Prepared within the framework of a qualitative research approach, the study adopts a historical-sociological analysis method and evaluates party programs, election results, political developments of the period, and relevant academic literature together. The findings indicate that Süleyman Demirel established broad social legitimacy through his pragmatic political language and emphasis on economic development, democratization, and social welfare, which played a decisive role in the electoral success of the True Path Party. However, the study also reveals that leader-centered political mobilization emerged as a structural factor limiting the party’s institutionalization and contributed to the weakening of organizational coherence in the post-leadership period. In this respect, the study analyzes the leadership-based structure of center-right politics in Türkiye through the case of the True Path Party and seeks to contribute to the social sciences literature within the context of institutionalization debates.
