Objective: The aim of this study was to develop a scale to assess the ethical values of intensive care nurses regarding the use of physical restraints and to evaluate the validity and reliability of this instrument.Methods: This methodological study was conducted with 253 nurses working in adult intensive care units of two university hospitals and one training and research hospital. Data were collected using a Nurse Demographic Information Form and the newly developed Ethical Values Scale for Physical Restraint in Intensive Care Nurses. Following content validity assessment, construct validity was examined through exploratory and confirmatory factor analyses. Internal consistency and reliability of the scale were assessed using Cronbach’s alpha coefficient and Pearson correlation analysis.Results: Exploratory factor analysis revealed a six-factor structure comprising 28 items, accounting for 62.835% of the total variance. The Kaiser-Meyer-Olkin measure of sampling adequacy was 0.857, and Bartlett’s Test of Sphericity was statistically significant (χ² = 3537.348, p < 0.001). The overall Cronbach’s alpha coefficient for the scale was calculated as 0.90.Conclusion: The findings indicate that the Ethical Values Scale for Physical Restraint in Intensive Care Nurses is a valid and reliable instrument for assessing the ethical values of nurses in intensive care settings.
</trans-abstract>
