Comparative Analysis of Higher Education Accreditation Criteria of Turkish and German Accreditation Bodies

Abstract

Accreditation in higher education is the process of assessing and assuring the quality of educational institutions and programmes. The importance of accreditation is increasing for Türkiye. Therefore, the main purpose of this study is to reveal the similarities and differences between the criteria developed by the internationally recognised accreditation body and the local accreditation body for quality management and their perspectives on quality management. In this context, this study was carried out using a comparative document analysis design from qualitative research methods in accordance with the nature of the research. Thematic analysis was used for data analysis. The scope of the research is limited to the Evaluation Criteria for Health Sciences Education Programmes dated June 2022 of the Association for Evaluation and Accreditation of Health Sciences Education Programmes and the Accreditation Agency in Health and Social Sciences' Accreditation Criteria for Health Education dated November 2023 and the comparative analysis of the criteria of these two organisations. As a result of the research, by comparing the accreditation criteria of the health sciences education programmes determined by the selected accreditation bodies for higher education, the similarities and differences of the higher education accreditation processes are mutually revealed and the main points that stand out as a result of the comparative analysis of higher education accreditation are discussed.
