Design and Characterization of a Green-Synthesized Magnetic Hybrid Material for Local Antibiotic Delivery in Periodontal Therapy

Abstract

This study focuses on developing a magnetic nanocarrier system for local delivery 14 of Tetracycline HCl to treat periodontitis. Magnetic nanoparticles with pH-15 responsive properties were synthesized using an environmentally friendly method 16 with Camellia sinensis (green tea) as both a capping and reducing agent. The 17 characterization study using FTIR, SEM, and Mössbauer spectroscopy methods 18 revealed that the hybrid biocomposite was successfully synthesized and effective at 19 carrying the drug. The Magnetic C. sinensis nanoparticles (MCs NPs) have a high 20 surface area of 41.157 m2/g with an exceptional drug loading capacity of 95.43%. 21 In vitro release studies showed that the drug could be released in a controlled and 22 continuous manner for 23 days at physiological pH (7.4). At pH 6,25, which 23 represents the infected periodontal region, the MCs demonstrated a rapid, pH-24 responsive therapeutic release profile in nearly 8,6 hours. These findings suggest 25 that the MCs system is a promising candidate for localized and effective treatment 26 of periodontitis.
