Fiziksel, cinsel, duygusal ve ekonomik formlarda kendini gösteren aile içi şiddet dünyagenelinde oldukça yaygın olarak görülen ve ciddi boyutları ile sadece birey ya da aileyideğil tüm toplumu ilgilendiren bir konudur. Bu nedenle, aile içi şiddet bir insan haklarıve halk sağlığı sorunudur. Aile içi şiddetin kadınların sağlığı, yaşam kalitesi ve çocuklarınüzerinde olan ciddi sonuçları nedeniyle şiddetin önlenmesi ve ortadan kaldırılması yönündeharekete geçilmesi gerekmektedir. Literatürde aile içi şiddeti önlemeye yönelik yapılanetkinliği kanıtlanmış programlarda hemşirelerin aktif rollerinin olduğu ortaya konmuştur.Hemşirelerin bu aktif rollerini gerçekleştirebilmeleri için aileyi ve aile bireylerini düzenliolarak değerlendirmeleri gerekmektedir. Etkin bir değerlendirme ve izlemin yapabilmesinisağlayan en uygun yöntem ev ziyaretleridir. Yapılan ev ziyaretleri ile aile yakındandeğerlendirip şiddetin varlığı ya da riski belirlenebilir, girişimlerde bulunulabilir ve şiddetortaya çıkmadan önlenmesini sağlanabilir. Ülkemizde aile içi şiddeti önlemeye yönelikbirinci basamak sağlık hizmetleri kapsamında herhangi bir uygulama mevcut değildir. Bunedenle aile içi şiddeti önlemeye yönelik birinci basamak sağlık hizmetleri kapsamındayapılacak uygulamalara ihtiyaç vardır. Bu makale, Türkiye’de birinci basamak sağlıkhizmetleri kapsamında aile içi şiddeti önlemeye yönelik Aile Sağlığı Merkezi ve Toplum  Sağlığı Merkezlerinde halk sağlığı hemşireleri tarafından ev ziyaretlerine dayalı bir modelönerisi geliştirilmesi amacıyla yazılmıştır.
