Assessment of Psycho-Social Disparity Difficulties 6-8 Year Old Stutter Students Face, in Terms of Student Opinions
Abstract
Stuttering is a disorder in the rhythm of speech that is an occurrence of seizure in the nature of speech,
involuntary repetition of words and letters and sound prolongations and that is known to be related to
psychological, neurological and physiological factors observed in speech. Stuttering that a speech problem also
reflects psycho-social and even academic skills of individuals and also forms a basis. Because those having
stuttering problem due to the breakdowns in speech do not feel at ease and safe, problems could be experienced
in their academic achievements in addition to their communication with people around them. Therefore,
problems experienced psycho-socially by the children between the ages of 6 to 8 have been examined thoroughly
in the light of children. In this study, 30 stutterer this pupils between the ages of six to eight attending schools of
the Konya Provincial Directorate of National Education were chosen using random technique and their opinions
were received. The data for this research were collected via using semi structured interview technique. At the
end of this study, it is concluded that pupils having stuttering problem principally had difficulties in psychosocial
environment and had insufficient knowledge to minimize and remove the problems experienced by
children in psycho-social environment.
