Nutritional Evaluation Of Recipe Posts On Instagram Shared By Dietitians

Öz

Objectives: Nowadays, dietitians widely use social media tools such as Instagram in order to build their clientile as well as share healthy eating tips and recipes. This study aimed to evaluate the nutritional content of recipes shared by dietitians on Instagram.
Materials and Methods: Instagram accounts of Turkish dietitians who had blue tick known as the Instagram verified sticker in their account and had more than 100 thousand followers were included in this study. We determined the last 10 Instagram recipe posts of each dietitan and divided them into 7 categories according to their content: main dish, soup, healthy bakery products, breakfast, salads, drink including smoothies and sweets. Nutritional composition (macro and micronutrients) of the recipes was analysed based on one serving size. Post demographics including number of likes, hastags and comments were also recorded.
Results: We identified a total of 98 recipes. The majority of the posts were shared as photo (80.6%) whereas the rest of the posts (19.4%) were shared as video. The mean (SD) number of likes was 6108.9 (±17971.2). The most shared recipe category was sweets category (36.1%), followed by salads category (17.0%). Salads category had the highest energy (381.4±126.8 kcal), protein (15.1±14.5 g) and fat content (24.0±10.0 g), sweets category had the lowest energy (139.9±63.2 kcal) and soup category had the highest carbohydate content per one serving (44.1±24.0 g).
Conclusion: Healthy recipe posts of dietitians on Instagram may be potentially misleading for public who may believe these foods are healthier than the regular alternatives. There is a need for social media guidelines on what to share online for dietitians.

Diyetisyenlerin Instagram’da Paylaştığı Yemek Tarifi Gönderilerinin Besin Ögeleri Açısından Değerlendirilmesi

Öz

Amaç: Günümüzde diyetisyenler, danışan ağını oluşturmak ve sağlıklı beslenme ipuçları ve tarifleri paylaşmak için Instagram gibi sosyal medya araçlarını yaygın olarak kullanmaktadır. Bu çalışma, diyetisyenlerin Instagram'da paylaştığı tariflerin besin içeriklerini değerlendirmeyi amaçlamıştır.
Gereç ve Yöntem: Çalışmamızda hesabında Instagram onaylı çıkartma olarak bilinen mavi tik bulunan ve 100 binden fazla takipçisi olan Türk diyetisyenlerin Instagram hesapları yer almıştır. Her diyetisyenin son 10 Instagram tarifi gönderisi belirlenmiş ve içeriklerine göre 7 kategoriye ayrılmıştır: ana yemek, çorba, sağlıklı unlu mamuller, kahvaltı, salatalar, içecekler (smoothie dahil) ve tatlılar. Tariflerin besin bileşimi (enerji ve makro besin ögeleri) bir porsiyon miktarına göre analiz edilmiştir. Beğeni, etiket ve yorum sayısı da dahil olmak üzere gönderi demografisi de kaydedilmiştir.
Bulgular: Toplam 98 adet tarif paylaşımı belirlenmiştir. Paylaşımların çoğu fotoğraf (%80,6), geri kalanı (%19,4) video olarak paylaşılmıştır. Ortalama (±S) beğeni sayısı 6108,9 (±17971,2) olarak bulunmuştur. En çok paylaşılan tarif kategorisi tatlı kategorisi (%36,1) olurken, onu salata kategorisi (%17,0) izlemiştir. Bir porsiyonda en yüksek enerji (381,4±126,8 kkal), protein (15,1±14,5 g) ve yağ (24,0±10,0 g) içeriğinin salata kategorisinde, en yüksek karbonhidrat içeriğinin (44,1±24,0 g) çorba kategorisinde ve en düşük enerji içeriğinin (139,9±63,2 kkal) tatlı kategorisinde olduğu gözlemlenmiştir.
Sonuç: Diyetisyenlerin Instagram'daki sağlıklı tarif paylaşımları, toplumda bu tariflerin normal alternatiflerden daha sağlıklı olduğuna inanan insanlar için potansiyel olarak yanıltıcı olabilir. Diyetisyenler için internette nelerin paylaşılacağına dair sosyal medya yönergelerine ihtiyaç olduğu düşünülmektedir.
