Elmer resimli çocuk kitapları serisinin erken çocukluk döneminde değerler eğitimi açısından taşıdığı potansiyeli inceleyen bu araştırma, seride yer alan 14 kitabı kök değerler bağlamında analiz etmiştir. Nitel araştırma yöntemlerinden temel nitel desenin kullanıldığı çalışmada, metin ve görseller içerik ve betimsel analiz teknikleriyle değerlendirilmiştir. Millî Eğitim Bakanlığı’nın değer ve davranış tutum çizelgesine dayalı araştırmacılar tarafından oluşturulan kontrol listesi aracılığıyla yapılan incelemede, metinlerde 194; görsellerde ise 156 kök değer örneğine rastlanmıştır. Metinlerde en çok saygı ve dostluk değerleri vurgulanırken vatanseverlik değerine sınırlı düzeyde yer verilmiştir. Görsellerde ise en sık karşılaşılan değerler dostluk ve sevgi olurken, vatanseverlik ve dürüstlük değerlerine hiç rastlanmamıştır. Elde edilen bulgular doğrultusunda Elmer kitap serisi, ailelerin ve öğretmenlerin çocuklara okuyabileceği; değerler eğitimini destekleyici bir materyal olarak değerlendirilebilir.
This study, which examines the potential of the Elmer series of illustrated children's books in terms of values education in early childhood, analyzed 14 books in the series in the context of root values. In the study, in which the basic qualitative design, one of the qualitative research methods, was used, texts and visuals were evaluated with content and descriptive analysis techniques. In the analysis conducted through the checklist created by the researchers based on the values and behaviors attitude chart of the Ministry of National Education, 194 examples of root values were found in the texts and 156 in the visuals. While the values of respect and friendship were emphasized the most in the texts, the value of patriotism was included at a limited level. In line with the findings, the Elmer book series can be considered as a supportive material for values education that families and teachers can read to children.
