As a PhD student, he concentrated on understanding the mechanisms regulating fruit susceptibility to low-temperature stress during storage. He also worked on approaches to identify key genes modulating fruit resistance mechanisms against biotic and abiotic stresses. He has experience in food science, biochemistry, and plant molecular biology. His research is focused on the postharvest physiology of different fruits, vegetables, and ornamental plants. He is working on different postharvest technologies such as edible coatings, elicitors, biopreservative packaging, and the development of novel approaches to maintain quality and extend the shelf life of highly perishable products. His studies are focused on developing strategies towards a better understanding of the preharvest and postharvest factors that affect the quality and storage life of fresh produce and also on developing innovative technologies to overcome problems in industry. He is involved in teaching undergraduate and postgraduate students with a special emphasis on postharvest physiology, plant growth regulators, mineral nutrition of plants, and plant biochemistry. He has supervised several postgraduate students. He has executed research projects supported by the Higher Education Commission of Pakistan.
