Internet Addiction in Young People in Albania

Abstract

In the late 1990s, the Internet have entered into people lives and agenda, it connects its users day by day. The Internet usage, today is reaching gigantic proportions both in the world in Albania. Many studies carried out in the world, has revealed that the most popular internet being used by children and young people. With the increase in the Internet usage time period, young people have become addicted and this situation can be seen as a social problem among the major social problems. In this study “Internet Addiction in young people in Albania” university students who study in Tirana have been a subject in terms of their internet usage and levels of internet addiction. In this context, in May 2015, face to face meetings have been done with 336 university students in Tirana through the Internet Addiction Scale that includes a questionnaire. The reliability coefficient was found to be 88.5. The findings that have been obtained via survey have been analyzed. The findings revealed that; 72.6 percent of students use the internet daily and students are often connected to the internet at home. In outside they can use mobile phone or internet café in order to connect to the internet. The findings showed that 93, 6’s percent of students use the Internet every day. 55 percent of students are connected to the internet from 1 to 3 hours for a day. We can describe as excessive use of the internet is more than 8 hours. Young people are connected to the internet daily average of 3 hours 46 minutes. 3/1000 university students in Tirana are internet addiction. In addition, 8.9 percent are at risk of Internet addiction. Girls are more dependent on the Internet than men and are more at risk of Internet addiction.
