Aesthetic Rehabilitation of Lateral Teeth Showing Volume Anomaly with Composite Laminate Veneer

Abstract

Microdontia is defined as a developmental dental anomaly characterized by teeth that are smaller than the normal size. Microdontia may affect a single tooth, a group of teeth, or, rarely, the entire dentition. It may also occur symmetrically, particularly involving the maxillary lateral incisors. The objective of this three-case presentation is to provide a direct aesthetic rehabilitation of microdont volume anomalies that appear symmetrically on maxillary lateral teeth with composite laminate veneers. Three female patients, aged 22, 26, and 33, presented to Department of Restorative Dentistry, complaining that their maxillary bilateral lateral teeth were smaller than the adjacent anterior teeth. After discussion of alternative treatment options, informed consent was obtained from all patients. Following clinical and radiological evaluation, direct composite laminate veneers were applied in a single session without tooth preparation using an opaque, dentin, and enamel composite layering technique. At the three-month follow-up examination, the restorations met the aesthetic expectations of the patients, and no sensitivity, discoloration, or fractures were observed in either the teeth or the restorations.
