Isolated Ileal Perforation Due to Blunt Abdominal Trauma: A Delayed Case Presentation
Abstract
Isolated small bowel perforation is extremely rare and challenging diagnosis in blunt abdominal trauma injuries. These injuries are associated with high mortality if not recognized early and if surgical intervention is delayed. Even when the symptoms are unclear; prolonged observation, serial abdominal and radiological examinations are crucial in making a diagnosis in suspected cases. In this case report, we present a case of isolated ileal perforation following blunt abdominal trauma following an animal kick, emphisizing the importance of clinical vigilance and timely surgical intervention. The patient's delayed second presentation to our instution, unstable clinical condition at admission, and rapid progression to septic shock despite appropriate surgical management make this case particularly noteworthy and emphesize the importance of early recognition and prompt treatment.
