Türk sinemasına dair tarihi bir değerlendirme yapmak esasen her biri özenle yapılmış önceki çalışmaların izinden gitmek ve bu çalışmalardan yararlanarak, belirli bir bağlam içinde, akademik anlatıya yeni boyutlar sunmaya çalışmaktır. Çalışmamızın birincil amacı dönemin modern ve teknolojik iletişim ve sanat dalı olan bu fenomeni öncelikle imparatorluğun, sonrasında da genç cumhuriyetin toplumsal ve politik tarihsel süreçleri içerisinde ele almaktır. İkinci olarak, Türk sinemasının gelişimi açısından, Osmanlı’dan kalan mirasın potansiyelin Cumhuriyetle birlikte hangi yöne gittiğini keşfetmeye çalışmaktır. Üçüncü olarak, bu süreçte ortaya çıkan sorun ve fırsatların uluslaşma mücadelesiyle ve devlet müdahaleleriyle ilişkisini belirlemek, ekonomik bağlamları bu tarihsel gelişmeyle ilişkilendirmektir. Çalışmamızda, sinemanın çok uluslu bir imparatorluk olan Osmanlı Devleti’nin başkentine ve sonra büyük şehirlerine gelişi ve yayılışı, dönemin politik katmanlarındaki ilişkileri içerecek şekilde incelenmiştir. Ek olarak, genç Cumhuriyet’in ulus olma sancılarını da kapsayan ve bir İmparatorluk mirasının etkisini barındıran sanat dalı olarak sinemanın gelişimi ortaya konmuştur. Bu yolculukta, daha sonra farklı ulusların parçası olacak, dönem itibariyle farklı dinsel cemaatlerden isimlerin sinema etrafında gelişen ilişikleri tartışılmış ve sinema çevresinde ortaya çıkan modernleşme süreçleri, genç cumhuriyetin sosyal yapılarla etkileşimi ve bunlara dair sorunlar ve sancılar sinema tarihi bağlamında kalınarak açıklanmıştır.
Making a historical evaluation of Turkish cinema essentially means following in the footsteps of previous studies, each of which has been carefully created; and trying to present new dimensions to the academic narrative within a certain context, by benefitting from these studies. The primary aim of our study is to examine this phenomenon, which is the modern and technological branch of communication and art of the period, within the social and political historical processes of the Empire, firstly, and then of the young republic. Secondly, it tries to discover which direction the potency of the legacy inherited from the Ottoman Empire went, with the existence of the Republic, in terms of the development of Turkish cinema. Thirdly, to determine the relations between the problems and opportunities that emerged in this process with the nationalization effort and the state interventions, and to relate the economic contexts to this historical development. In our study, the arrival and the spreading of cinema to the capital and then to the major cities of the Ottoman State, a multinational empire, is examined, by including the interactions in the political layers of the period. In addition, the development of cinema, as a form of art, which also contains the problems of being a nation and the influence of the Imperial legacy, is revealed. In this journey, the relationships between people from different religious communities, who would later become part of different nations, around cinema are discussed, and the modernization processes that emerged around cinema, the interaction of the young republic with social structures, and the problems and pains related to all these problems and issues, are explained in the context of cinema history.
