Muslims, who became united under the umbrella of Islam with the Prophet's invitation, continued their unity after his death. Undoubtedly, the most important factor in this was the Muslims' continued adherence to Islamic principles. During the time of the first two caliphs, the unity of Muslims continued within the framework of Islamic principles. The ʿUthmān b. ʿAffān period is one of the important turning points in Islamic history. The troubled process that resulted in the assassination of the caliph in this period has been the starting point of the divisions that have lasted until today. The historical readings of this period also make the effects of ideologies very much felt. While some historians, who focus on the causes of the troubled period of ʿUthmān b. ʿAffān's reign, try to explain the events through “the mistakes he made”, others focus on the role of ʿAbdallāh b. Saba’. At this point, one issue that has emerged over time is whether ʿAbdallāh b. Saba’ was a historical reality or a fictitious figure. In addition, while evaluating the subject, a general opinion has been formed that the narrations that give information about ʿAbdallāh b. Saba’ were narrated only by Sayf b. ‘Umar. This article first evaluates the views on the existence of ʿAbdallāh b. Saba’ and then discusses his role in the troubles of the ʿUthmān b. ʿAffān period. For this reason, we have under taken such a study with the aim of reaching the truth through a detailed discussion after presenting the theses and arguments of the opposing views. In accordance with the nature of the subject, induction, deduction, description and discussion methods were used in the study.
Hz. Peygamber’in davetiyle İslâm çatısı altında birleşen Müslümanlar, onun vefatından sonra da birlikteliklerini devam ettirmişlerdir. Kuşkusuz bunda en önemli etken Müslümanların İslami ilkelere bağlılıklarını sürdürmeleriydi. İlk iki halife döneminde de Müslümanların birlikteliği İslami ilkeler çerçevesinde devam etmiştir. Hz. Osman Dönemi, İslâm tarihindeki önemli dönüm noktalarından biridir. Zira bu dönemde halifenin öldürülmesiyle sonuçlanan sıkıntılı süreç, günümüze kadar gelen ayrışmaların başlangıç noktası olmuştur. Bu döneme dair yapılan tarih okumaları da ideolojilerin etkilerini fazlasıyla hissettirmektedir. Hz. Osman döneminde yaşanan sıkıntılı sürecin sebepleri üzerinde duran kimi tarihçiler, olayları “onun yapmış olduğu hatalar” üzerinden açıklama yoluna giderken kimi tarihçiler de Abdullah b. Sebe’nin rolü üzerine odaklanmaktadır. Bu noktada zamanla ortaya çıkan bir konu da Abdullah b. Sebe’nin tarihî bir gerçeklik mi yoksa hayal ürünü bir şahsiyet mi olduğu meselesi olmuştur. Ayrıca konu değerlendirilirken Abdullah b. Sebe hakkında bilgi veren rivayetlerin sadece Seyf b. Ömer tarafından aktarıldığı gibi bir genel kanı da oluşmuştur. Bu makalede, ilk olarak Abdullah b. Sebe’nin mevcudiyeti konusunda ortaya atılan görüşlerin değerlendirmesi yapılmakta, ardından da onun Hz. Osman döneminde yaşanan sıkıntılardaki rolü tartışılmaktadır. Bu sebeple, karşıt görüşlerin tezlerini ve delillerini ortaya koyduktan sonra detaylı bir tartışmayla gerçeğe ulaşma gayesini güderek böyle bir çalışma yapmaya yöneldik. Konunun özelliğine uygun olarak çalışmada tümevarım, tümdengelim, betimleme ve tartışma yöntemleri kullanılmıştır.
