This study proposes a novel design model to generate energy in remote and off-grid environments by utilizing piezoelectric-film transducers in conjunction with vortex-induced vibrations behind semi-circular bluff body cylinders of varying sizes. The energy harvesting performance is analyzed by investigating wake vortices generated behind the bluff bodies, with the piezoelectric-film transducers placed at different positions and configurations. Flow visualization results of the wake structures behind the bluff bodies are presented, elucidating the relationship between flow topology and energy generation. Experimental results demonstrate that the output capacitor voltage levels reach averages of 2.41 V and 2.84 V for the optimized configurations. The findings reveal that the energy production performance of piezoelectric-film transducers is primarily governed by harmonic interactions with the vortex shedding patterns and is strongly affected by both the bluff body geometry and the spatial placement and orientation of the transducers. This study highlights the potential of this approach for enabling self-sufficient energy generation in remote areas, with promising applications in low-power military and communication systems.</p>
