Özellikle İkinci Cinsiyet adlı eserinde kadınları ‘öteki’ olarak tanımlarken gösterdiği metodolojik keskinliği, The Coming of Age (Yaşlılık) eserinde yaşlılık alanına taşır.

<p>Simone de Beauvoir, as one of the most influential thinkers of the twentieth century, contributed not only to existentialist philosophy but also to the analysis of social categories rendered invisible by modern society. Building on the methodological rigor she employed in The Second Sex to define women as the ‘Other,’ Beauvoir directs her attention in The Coming of Age to the often-overlooked realm of aging. In this book review, the comprehensive work is examined with respect to the historical representations, social meanings, and societal position of aging in modern contexts. Beauvoir emphasizes that aging is a socially constructed category rather than a natural inevitability, analyzing it as a complex phenomenon shaped by cultural norms and power relations. By lifting the veil of silence over old age, the book establishes aging as a political issue and constitutes a foundational text in its study.</p></trans-abstract>
