INVESTIGATION OF THE FACTORS AFFECTING PROFITABILITY IN THE BANKING SECTOR WITH PANEL DATA ANALYSIS: THE CASE OF TURKEY
Abstract
In this study, factors affecting the profitability of commercial banks operating in the Turkish banking sector for
the period 2004-2014 has been investigated. For this purpose stationarity order of the first series has been
investigated with the unit root tests. In this context, factors affecting profitability, is estimated by means of two
different models. In the empirical application of the results; it was concluded that the fixed effects model is the
appropriate model. The dependent variable is net income (loss) / total assets are in the model Shareholders'
Equity / Total Assets, Liquid Assets / Current Liabilities, Non-Interest Income (Net) / Total Assets, Interest
Income / Interest Expense variables; the dependent variable is net income (loss) / equity only if the model is
Non-Interest Income (Net) / Total Assets reached the conclusion that the variable is significant.
