Aynı zamanda Said, Amerikan akademisinde hâkim konumda bulunan Yeni Eleştirinin de etkisi altındadır. Onun ilk çalışmalarına baktığımızda, olgun Said’in düşüncesinde çok fazla görülemeyecek bir apolitik metin yorumuna yakınlık beslediği görülür. Said’in düşünsel gelişimini en baştan itibaren takip edip, onun nasıl siyasallaştığını anlamak için, erken dönem teorik ilgililerinin hangi dünya-tarihsel olaylar sayesinde dönüşüm geçirdiğini anlamak gerekir. İlk dönem Said’in, fenomenolojiye yakınlık besleyen ve bireysel kendini inşa süreçlerini dünya siyasetinden ayrı gören Amerikan idealizminin bir sürümü olduğunu söylemek mümkündür. Bu makalenin amacı, Edward Said’in erken dönem düşüncesinde meydana gelen bu politik kırılmayı ortaya koymak ve literatürde çok da dikkat çekilmeyen ilk dönemini tartışmaya açmaktır.</p>

<p>Edward Said’s intellectual career began with his writings on phenomenology and existentialism. At the same time, Said was also under the influence of the New Criticism that dominated American academia. When we look at his early works, we see that he had an affinity for an apolitical interpretation of texts that is not often seen in the mature Said&#039;s thought. It took some crucial world historical events for this apolitical textual analysis to disappear and for the relationship between politics and texts to be rethought. The Israeli occupation of the Arab world and its impact on Arab intellectuals living in America led Said to develop an interest in political agendas and reconsider his theoretical orientations. Reevaluating the apolitical literary criticism of the sheltered world of academia, Said sought to achieve a theoretical position from which to intervene in human societies and their current situations. His first two essays on Joseph Conrad bear profound traces of this transformation. To trace Said’s intellectual development from the very beginning and understand how he became politicized, it is necessary to understand the world-historical events that transformed his early theoretical interests. It is possible to argue that the early Said was a version of American idealism, with its affinity for phenomenology and its view of individual self-construction as distinct from world politics. The purpose of this article is to reveal this political rupture in Edward Said&#039;s early thought and to open up a discussion of his first period, which has received little attention in the literature. From phenomenology and The purpose of this article is to reveal this political rupture in Edward Said’s early thought.</p></trans-abstract>
