A Study on the Views of Energy Sector Executives on UN Sustainable Development Goals

Year 2025, Volume: 6 Issue: 2, 1 - 8, 31.12.2025

Abstract

This study investigates the perceptions and implementation levels of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) among energy sector executives in Turkey. As the energy industry plays a pivotal role in achieving global sustainability targets, understanding executive awareness and organizational practices is of critical importance. A quantitative research design was employed, involving a survey administered to 100 energy sector executives across various firms. The results revealed that while 85% of the participants reported being aware of the SDGs, only 40% stated that their organizations actively implement strategies aligned with these goals. The most implemented goals were found to be Goal 9 (Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure) and Goal 13 (Climate Action), whereas socially oriented goals such as Goal 1 (No Poverty) and Goal 4 (Quality Education) had significantly lower implementation rates. Statistical analysis using Chi-square and independent samples t-tests confirmed a significant relationship between awareness and implementation levels (p < 0.05). These findings underscore the need for targeted executive training, policy support, and strategic institutional collaborations to enhance the integration of sustainability practices within energy-based organizations.
