Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship among four different activities of daily living (ADL) indexes in cancer patients. Methods: This study was performed in 50 hospitalized patients (31 females, 19 males) with a mean age of 54 years. The ADL levels of patients were evaluated using Katz, Barthel, Functional Independence Measure (FIM) and Kenny ADL indexes. All ADL indexes were administered by the same physiotherapist to each patient. During evaluations for ADL, it was asked from the patients to do each ADL in hospital setting, the physiotherapist marked the observation result to the index paper. Results: The diagnosis of the patients participating in the study were organ cancer (stomach, endometrial, lung) in 17 (34%) patients, hematologic cancer (leukaemia, lymphoma) in 16 (32%) patients, breast cancer in 10 (20%) patients, and intracranial tumours in 7 (14%) patients. The correlation between Katz-Kenny, Katz-Barthel, Katz-FIM, Kenny-Barthel, KennyFIM, FIM-Barthel are r=0.880, r=0.921, r=0.906, r=0.933, r=0.899, r=0.914 (p<0,001) respectively. High and positive relation was found between each four ADL indexes. Conclusion: Although use of the ADL indexes (Katz, Barthel, FIM, and Kenny) appears to be appropriate, there are significant differences in practice. We think that sub-parameters (feeding, dressing) of Barthel are more comprehensive, more understandable, its point scoring system is simpler. The FIM is more sensitive to evaluate improvements in treatment, its point scoring system is more comprehensive, therefore, Barthel ADL index and FIM are more appropriate to evaluate cancer patients
</trans-abstract>
