The Effect of Different Row Spacing on Some Yield and Quality Parameter of Giant Nettle (Girardinia diversifolia) in Samsun Ecology
Abstract
This study was carried out to determine the effects of different row spacing on morphological characteristics, yield elements and some fiber quality criteria in giant nettle (Girardinia diversifolia) plant. The study was conducted with three replicates according to the randomized complete block design (RCBD) trial design by applying four different row spacing distances (25, 50, 75 and 100 cm). According to the results of the analysis of variance, results showed thatplant height, usable stem length, stem yield and seed yield showed statistically significant and highly significant effects from the treatments of different row spacings. On the other hand, fiber strength and fiber elongation test were recorded as treatments in which no significant difference was detected between the treatments. In terms of morphological characteristics, optimum yield was obtained from seedlings planted at row spacings of 50 cm. As a result of the Pearson correlation analysis, strong positive relationships were found between plant height, usable stem length, stem yield and seed yield. Although no statistical significance could be determined in fiber parameters, the highest fiber strength and elongation values were obtained from seedlings planted at 50 cm row spacings.
