Determination of reproductive health attitudes and affecting factors of women aged 15-49

Abstract

Aims: This study aimed to determine women’s attitudes towards reproductive health and the factors affecting them. Methods: The study was a descriptive and cross-sectional study. The study population consisted of married women of reproductive age (15-49 years) who applied to the Bursa Uludağ University Health Application Research Center Gynecology and Obstetrics Outpatient Clinic. The Descriptive Information Form and Determination of Married Women’s Reproductive Health Protective Attitudes Scale (RHPAS) were used to collect data from the women. The research data were collected by face-to-face interviews between February and July 2020. The SPSS v26 package program was used to evaluate the data, and the significance test of the difference between two means in independent groups (T test) was used. Results: The mean age of the women was found to be 34.35±9.17 years. 36.8% of the women were high school graduates, and 53.4% were housewives. While 56.9% of the women did not perform breast self-examination (BSE), 89.1% did not know when to perform BSE. 54% of the women applied to the gynecology and obstetrics outpatient clinic for ultrasonography (USG), 48.9% for pap smear, 28.2% for biopsy, and 36.2% for hormone tests. The mean score of the Determination of Women’s RHPAS was 148.28±17.38 (min: 104, max: 189). Women who reported having regular gynecological examinations had higher mean scores on the RHPAS total score. Women who exhibited the behavior of performing BSE had higher mean scores on the RHPAS total score in the study. Conclusion: Opportunistic information programs can be managed at different health levels, both in rural and urban areas, so that women of reproductive age can develop attitudes that protect reproductive health. Public service announcements can be created to provide mass access and raise awareness at the social level, and people can be invited to health services to receive SRH education.
