<p>Aim: The purpose of this study is to examine the effects of media and technology use within the context of digital recreation on family communication and family belonging. In this regard, the relationships between levels of digital media use (smartphone use and video game playing), family communication patterns (dialogue and conformity), and family belonging (self-belonging and family belonging) were investigated. Method: This study was conducted using a quantitative research approach and a relational survey design. The study sample consisted of 576 individuals aged 18 and over residing in the province of Kırşehir. Data were collected using the Media and Technology Usage and Attitudes Scale, the Family Communication Patterns Scale, and the Family Belonging Scale. Correlation analysis and predictive regression analyses were employed to analyse the data. Results: The findings indicate that digital media use, smartphone use, and video game playing behaviors exhibit significant and strong negative relationships with family communication and family belonging. Regression analyses revealed that technology use significantly predicts all dependent variables and demonstrates particularly high explanatory power for family belonging. Conclusion: The results demonstrate that increased use of digital technologies negatively affects the quality of family communication and weakens individuals’ perceptions of family belonging. In this context, the development of social, pedagogical, and preventive interventions aimed at strengthening family structure is considered essential.Originality: This study makes an original contribution by addressing media and technology use within the framework of digital recreation together with family communication and family belonging, thereby providing a comprehensive perspective on the effects of digitalization on family structure.</p></trans-abstract>
