Content analysis of academic studies on artificial intelligence in tourism journals

Abstract

With the increasing use of artificial intelligence (AI) in the tourism sector, it has become important to analyze related studies and identify emerging trends. In this study, content analysis was applied to a total of 79 articles published in top 6 journals of "Hospitality, Leisure, Sports and Tourism" category of the Social Sciences Citation Index (SSCI) such as Annals of Tourism Research, Tourism Management, Journal of Hospitality Marketing & Management, Journal of Sport and Health Science, International Journal of Hospitality Management, and International Journal of Contemporary Hospitality Management, between 2018 and 2024. As a result of the analysis, it was determined that the country that produced the most articles in this field was China, followed by the USA. Quantitative research methods were used the most in the research (67.08%) and the most used variables were performance and security.
