Atherothrombotic diseases such as myocardial and cerebral infarctions are serious consequences of the thrombus formed in the blood vessels which are the most common causes of death worldwide. The present study aimed to evaluate the antiplatelet and antithrombotic activities of methanolic leaf extract of Terminalia pallida Brandis (METP). Antiplatelet property was carried by assessing bleeding time (BT) and collagen, adenosine diphosphate (ADP), and arachidonic acid (AA) induced platelet aggregation; whereas antithrombotic effects were assessed by measuring the coagulation parameters such as fibrinogen (Fb), thrombin time (TT), prothrombin time (PT), and activated partial thromboplastin time (aPTT). In this study, METP treatment significantly prolonged BT and inhibited ADP, collagen and AA induced platelet aggregation. Whereas, METP treatment also prolonged TT, PT and aPTT and reduced fibrinogen levels. Considering the in vivo, results the present investigation could be concluded that T. pallida Brandis (METP) leaf extract possess significant antiplatelet, antithrombotic properties.
