Determination and Association of Variables Affecting Knee Joint Angular Deviation Errors in Female Athletes

Abstract

Background and Study Aim:The aim of this study was to determine the physical param-eters affecting the knee joint angular awareness of female athletes and to reveal which physical parameters they are related to. Material and Methods:14 female athletes (22.06±1.38 years, 165.40±7.51 cm, 60.80±8.37 kg) studying at Bartin University Faculty of Sports Sciences and actively continuing their training in their branches participated in the study. In the study, an experimental design without a control group was used. After tak-ing anthropometric measurements (age, weight, body fat percentage) of female athletes, as the parameters considered to be related, angular deviation error test, jump-based anaero-bic test values, Wingate power test, and dynamic and static balance test values were taken. Results: The Spearman correlation test was used to determine the relationship between the measurements in the analysis of the data. As a result of the findings, a highly significant positive correlation was found between the 90° angular difference in the right knee joint and AP (r = .818, p<.01), a moderately significant negative correlation between the 120° angular difference in the right knee joint and AGP (r = -.559, p<.05). In addition, a moder-ately significant negative correlation was observed between the 120° angular difference in the left knee joint and ML (r = -.552, p<.05). As a result, the findings support the effect of proprioception on dynamic balance, while questioning its relationship with anaerobic power and jump performance. Conclusions: In this context, training programs aimed at increasing proprioceptive sensitivity can be an important tool for improving sports per-formance and preventing sports injuries.
