Throughout the world, examining the concept of "disability" from a medical point of view as a physical disease has been replaced by a social perspective that examines the relationships that the individual will establish with other people in society due to his disadvantaged physical characteristics. Therefore, the visibility of the emerging sociology of disability in the field of social sciences has increased in Turkey in recent years. In this study, the problems faced by hearing-impaired people and their families in their daily lives and the strategies they have developed against these problems have been examined from the sociological point of view of disability. The main reason for choosing the hearing disability among the types of disability is the desire to evaluate the problems that the hearing-impaired individual may encounter in daily life through their hearing, speaking, understanding and expression skills, both by the hearing-impaired individual and by the family members of the hearing-impaired individual. Accordingly, the field part of the study was carried out using a phenomenological pattern using a qualitative research method. In-depth interviews were conducted with hearing-impaired individuals and hearing-impaired families, and data were analyzed using the MAXQDA program in Kayseri. In addition to systemic issues such as education and health as a result of research communication, stamp, social and psychological problems such as exclusion and strategies for coping with these problems as communication alternatives, belonging, individual coping, support, import/support strategies such as have been revealed.
Dünya genelinde “engellilik" kavramın tıbbi bakış açısıyla fiziksel bir hastalık gibi incelenmesinin yerini bireyin dezavantajlı fiziksel özelliğinden dolayı toplum içerisinde diğer insanlarla kuracağı ilişkileri inceleyen sosyal bakış açısına bırakmıştır. Dolayısıyla ortaya çıkan engellilik sosyolojisinin son yıllarda Türkiye’de de sosyal bilimler alanında görünürlüğü artmıştır. Bu çalışmada işitme engelli bireylerin ve ailelerinin gündelik yaşamlarında karşılaştıkları sorunlar ve bu sorunlara karşı geliştirdikleri stratejiler engelliliğin sosyolojik bakış açısıyla incelenmiştir. Engellilik türleri arasından işitme engelinin seçilmesindeki temel sebep işitme engeli bireyin duyma, konuşma, anlama, anlatma becerileri üzerinden gündelik yaşamda karşılaşılabilecekleri sorunların hem işitme engelli bireyin kendisinin hem de işitme engelli bireyin aile üyelerinin kendi deneyimleri üzerinden değerlendirmek istenmesidir. Buna bağlı olarak çalışmanın saha kısmı nitel araştırma yöntemi ile fenomenolojik desen kulanılarak yapılmıştır. Kayseri ilinde işitme engelli bireyler ve işitme engelli aileleri ile derinlemesine görüşmeler yapılmış ve MAXQDA programı ile veriler analiz edilmiştir. Araştırma sonucunda eğitim, sağlık gibi sistemsel sorunların yanında iletişim, damga, dışlanma gibi sosyal ve psikolojik sorunlar ile bu sorunlarla baş etme stratejileri olarak da iletişimde alternatifler, aidiyet, bireysel başa çıkma, destek alma/destek olma gibi stratejiler ortaya konmuştur.
