<p>Purpose: The aim of this study is to examine the mediating role of smartphone addiction in the relationship between loneliness levels and motivation for participation in physical activity among university students in health education.Method: The research was conducted using a correlational survey model within the scope of a quantitative research approach. The study group consisted of a total of 337 students (183 female, 154 male) studying at Aydın Adnan Menderes University. Data were collected through a Personal Information Form, the Smartphone Addiction Scale-Short Form, the UCLA Loneliness Scale Short Form, and the Motivation for Participation in Physical Activity Scale. Relationships between variables were examined using correlation analysis; regression analysis was performed using the bootstrap method to test for mediating effects. Results: According to the research findings, a positive and significant relationship was found between students&#039; loneliness levels and smartphone addiction. A negative and significant relationship was found between smartphone addiction and motivation for participation in physical activity. However, bootstrap regression analysis results showed that smartphone addiction did not play a significant mediating role in the relationship between loneliness and motivation to participate in physical activity. Conclusion: The findings indicate that loneliness and smartphone addiction may have indirect effects on students&#039; motivation towards physical activity. These results highlight the importance of digital awareness, strengthening social support mechanisms, and educational programs that encourage physical activity for university students. The study provides a theoretical framework for practices aimed at coping with digital addiction and supporting active lifestyles among students in health education.</p></trans-abstract>
