                            <p>In this study, effects of cobalt addition on the microstructure and mechanical properties of conventional cast Al-30Si-5Fe-XCo(X= 0, 1, 3 and 5) alloys were investigated. In this context, elemental Al (99.9% purity), Si (99.999% purity), Fe (99.999% purity) andCo (99.999% purity) were used to prepare the alloys in composition of Al-30Si-5Fe-XCo(X = 0, 1, 3 and 5 wt.%). The master alloyswere produced in an induction heating melter. All production processes were performed in Ar atmosphere. The microstructures ofsamples were investigated using X-ray diffractometry (XRD), optical microscope (OM) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM).A Vickers microhardness tester was used for microhardness measurements. The results showed that sufficient amount of Co additionalters morphology of Fe-bearing intermetallic compounds (IMCs) from long rod/needle-like to short rod-like, and leads to a morehomogenous distribution of them in the microstructure. As the Co contribution to conventional cast Al-Si alloys increases, boththe primary Si phases and the Fe-containing intermetallics decrease in average grain. According to X-ray analyzes, the intermetallicphases of primary silicon, α-Al and δ-Al4FeSi2 appear clearly in the microstructures of the master alloys. While 1% of cobalt additivedecreased the hardness, 3% and 5% of cobalt additive increased the hardness.</p></trans-abstract>
                                                                                                                                    <abstract><p>Bu çalışmada geleneksel döküm Al–30Si–5Fe–XCo (X = 0, 1, 3 ve 5) alaşımlarının mikroyapısal ve mekanik özelliklerine kobaltkatkısının etkileri araştırılmıştır. Bu kapsamda, Al-30Si-5Fe-XCo (X = 0, 1, 3 ve 5 ağ.%) kompozisyonundaki alaşımları, Al (%99.99saflıkta), Si (%99.999 saflıkta), Fe (%99.999 saflıkta) ve Co (%99.999 saflıkta) elementleri kullanılarak hazırlanmıştır. Master alaşımlarindüksiyon eritme ocağında üretilmişlerdir. Bütün üretim süreçleri Ar atmosferinde gerçekleştirilmiştir. Numunelerin mikroyapılarıX-ışını difraktometresi (XRD), optik mikroskobu (OM) ve taramalı elektron mikroskobu (SEM) yardımıyla incelenmiştir. Mikrosertlikölçümleri Vickers uçlu bir mikrosertlik test cihazı ile yapılmıştır. Elde edilen sonuçlar göstermiştir ki; Al-Si-Fe alaşımlarına yapılanyeterli miktardaki Co katkısı Fe-içeren intermetaliklerin morfolojilerini uzun çubuk/iğne benzeri yapıdan kısa çubuk benzeri yapıyadönüştürmekte ve onların mikroyapı içerisinde homojen bir şekilde dağılımını sağlamaktadır. Geleneksel döküm Al-Si alaşımlarınayapılan Co katkısı arttıkça hem birincil Si fazlarının hem de Fe-içeren intermetaliklerin ortalama tane boyutlarının azalmasına nedenolmaktadır. XRD analizlerine göre, master alaşımların mikroyapılarında birincil silisyum, α-Al ve δ-Al4FeSi2 intermetalik fazlarıbelirgin bir şekilde ortaya çıkmaktadır. Yapılan %1 kobalt katkısı sertlik değerinin azalmasına neden olurken %3 ve 5 kobalt katkılarısertlik değerlerinin artışına neden olmuştur.</p></abstract>
