<p>This article systematically examines the relationship between Jacques Derrida’s concept of clôture and Quentin Meillassoux’s critique of correlationism. Despite their apparent opposition, it is argued that both thinkers articulate two distinct formulations of the same fundamental problem of epistemic closure. In Derrida, closure is conceived as a constitutive operation in which meaning is endlessly deferred within the linguistic–textual domain and never fully instituted; deconstruction does not seek to abolish this operation but rather to render it visible from within. Meillassoux, by contrast, diagnoses closure as a historical limitation imposed by post-Kantian thought and attempts to demonstrate, through rational argumentation, that this limitation is not principled but can be overcome. The central finding of the article is that Meillassoux’s attempt to escape the correlationist circle rests on granting mathematics the status of a transcendental signified—precisely the kind of privilege Derrida seeks to deconstruct—thereby carrying the risk of inaugurating a new form of rationalist closure. Consequently, the relationship between the two thinkers should not be understood in terms of a simple succession or overcoming, but rather re-framed as a productive tension between critical immanence and speculative orientation.</p></trans-abstract>
