<p>Until 1980’s, the board of directors was approached only concerning their managerial and decision making dimensions. Whereas, it is declared that these boards can have some other functions and missions. In managerial sciences literature, there are some different approaches about the functions, structures and missions of boards. One of these approaches is ‘Resource dependency’ and it basically claims the followings: The boards can perform some activities on providing resources to the company; the diversity of environment where company provides its resources can also be observed in the diversity of its board, moreover, the social relationships which the members of the boards have can be considered as an endeavour for the company’s resources. In this sense, one of the reasons of the diversity in the structure of boards can be seen as the efforts of the company to provide resource. In this paper, the effect of social relations of the boards’ members with the environment of company is tried to be discussed. Concerning these issues, the structure of Turkish companies’ boards that has been serving in the government sectors is historically taken into consideration.</p></trans-abstract>
