Anestezi altında hiperkarbinin en sık nedeni; karbondioksit absorbanının zamanında değiştirilmemesi ve valf sistemindeki arıza sonucu ekspire edilen gaz karışımındaki karbondioksitin etkili biçimde uzaklaştırılamadan tekrar solunmasıdır. Hiperkarbinin neden olduğu semptomların diğer stres cevaplarına benzerliğinden dolayı sıklıkla yanlış tanı konur. Bu yazıda, adenoidektomi operasyonu geçiren 3 yaşındaki erkek olgunun ameliyat sonunda uyanmada gecikme meydana geldi. Kas gevşetici olarak mivakuryum kullanılan olguda uyanmada gecikme psödokolinesteraz yetersizliğine olarak düşünüldü. Ancak yapılan değerlendirmede hiperkarbi nedeninin anestezi cihazının ekspiratuar valften kaynaklandığı saptandı. Operasyon sırasında hastaların durumlarındaki beklenmeyen değişikliklerin araştırılmasında olguların sistemik problemlerinin yanı sıra ekipman arızaları da göz önünde bulundurulmalıdır</p>
