<p>OBJECTIVE: The long-term use of boron compoundscommonly used in daily life has some dose-dependenttoxic effects on different organs For this purpose, in ourstudy, we aimed to determine the change in blood-testisbarrier structure and the number of leydig cells inthe testis of rats in which were given borax at differentdoses.MATERIAL AND METHODS: In our study, 4 groups, ineach have 6 male rats were made. Different doses ofborax were given orally to rats in each groups. Afterthe experiment, the left testis was excised, histologically processed and stained with Claudin-1,Pan cadherin and Calretinin immunohistochemicallyand evaluated under light microscopy.RESULTS: In testis slides, it was determined that Cadherinexpression decreased parallel to borax doses. However,it was observed that the expression of Claudin 1 didnot change much between the groups. The number ofLeydig cells was observed to decrease in rats administeredonce with an LD50x2 dose.CONCLUSIONS: The findings suggest that the use ofborax may be deleterious to the blood-testis barriercomponents in the testes. These effects have the potentialto cause long term infertility problems. For this reason, weconsider that it is necessary to take important preventivemeasures in terms of environmental pollution, especiallyaround boron components production centers.</p></trans-abstract>

Bu amaçla çalışmamızda değişik dozlarda borakskullanılan ratların testislerinde kan-testis bariyeri yapısındave leydig hücre sayısında görülebilecek değişimibelirlemeyi amaçladık.GEREÇ VE YÖNTEM: Çalışmada her grupta 6’şar erkek ratbulunan toplam 4 grup oluşturuldu. Her gruptaki ratlaraboraksın farklı dozları oral yoldan uygulandı.
