Purpose: Study conducted to determine the fear of COVID-19 and the attitudes and behaviors towards the recommended treatment of patients who applied to the general surgery outpatient clinic during the COVID-19 epidemic and were planned for elective surgery.
Method: This study was performed on 106 patients who were scheduled for elective surgery and applied to the general surgery outpatient clinic of Kahramanmaraş Sütçü İmam University Hospital, Turkey between March 2022 and April 2022. Data were collected using the Introductory Information Questionnaire and the COVID-19 Fear Scale (FCV-19S).
Results: The mean FCV-19S score of the participants was 17.53±7.40. In the comparison of FCV-19S between participants who postponed/not started treatment and those who did not, it was found that there was a significant correlation between them (p:0.00). The FCV-19S score (23.40±8.57) was found to be higher in the participants who delayed or did not start treatment (42.3%).
Conclusions and Suggesiton: It is recommended that patients who apply to the general surgery outpatient clinic should be provided with patient care in order to determine and prevent their fears in the perioperative process, and to be informed about the effects of COVID-19 on their health.
