Samipaşazâde Sezai and Halit Ziya, prominent novelists and storytellers from the Tanzimat and Servet-i Fünûn periods, respectively, produced significant works in their eras. Despite being written in different periods, the stories “Pandomima” by Samipaşazâde Sezai and “Mösyö Kanguru” by Halit Ziya, which will be critiqued in this article, exhibit notable similarities. It is striking that two artists with different literary approaches have addressed closely related themes in these two stories with a similar sensibility. The stories converge on a common ground in terms of narrative structure, character construction, and aesthetic choices. The similarity of spatial descriptions, the protagonists’ experience of comparable psychological states within different plot structures, and such elements as the physical ugliness of Paskal and Monsieur Kangaroo along with their problematic relationships with the social environment and their existential alienation constitute the principal grounds for comparison between the two narratives. By deliberately distancing themselves from coincidence, traditional narrative patterns, and supernatural elements, these texts reflect the individual-centered aesthetic orientation of the modern short story. This article will analyze and interpret the perspectives of these two influential writers on the subject, based on their respective stories.
Biri Tanzimat öbürü de Servet-i Fünûn döneminin önemli roman ve hikâye yazarlarından olan Samipaşazâde Sezai ile Halit Ziya, kendi dönemlerinde önemli eserlere imza atmışlardır. Bu yazıda tenkidi yapılacak olan Samipaşazâde Sezai’nin “Pandomima” ile Halit Ziya’nın “Mösyö Kanguru” adlı hikâyeleri farklı dönemlerde yazılmış olmalarına rağmen aralarında önemli benzerliklerin olduğu müşahede edilmiştir. Farklı edebi anlayışa mensup iki sanatçının aynı duyuşla bu iki hikâyede ele aldığı konuların yakınlığı dikkat çekicidir. Hikayeler; anlatı yapısı, kahraman kurgusu ve estetik tercihleri bakımından ortak bir zeminde buluşmuştur. Mekân tasvirlerinin benzerliği ve başkahramanların farklı olay örgüleri içinde benzer ruhsal deneyimleri yaşamaları, Paskal ile Mösyö Kanguru’nun fiziksel çirkinlikleri, toplumsal çevreyle kurduğu problemli ilişkileri ve varoluşsal yabancılaşmaları gibi başlıklar bu iki hikâyeyi mukayese saikleridir. Tesadüf, geleneksel anlatı kalıpları ve doğaüstü unsurlardan uzak duran bu metinler, modern hikâyenin bireyi merkeze alan estetik anlayışını yansıtmaktadır. İşte bu makalede bu iki önemli yazarın iki farklı hikâyesi temel alınarak onların bu konudaki düşünceleri yorumlanıp irdelenecektir.
