The origins of Turkish art date back centuries. Our art, founded on solid and deep foundations, has been shaped by the culture of different civilizations and has influenced the history of world art. The Anatolian Seljuks period is one of the eras when unique works emerged. Magnificent pattern designs, especially geometric ornaments, are seen to be predominant. Stylized plant and animal figures were also used in the compositions. Penç motifs, which are included in the plant group, are stylized forms of top-down views of flowers. In the study, metal, textile, leather, stone, wood and tile works that have survived from the Anatolian Seljuks to the present day were examined. The aim is to identify natural counterparts of certain figures that initially appear as geometric shapes and are not immediately recognized as floral motifs. It aims to prove that these motifs may have been inspired by plants. For this purpose, many works thought to be penç motifs were examined, but only 19 historical works could be included here. The comparison of flowers and motifs was based on the number and shape of petals. The motif and its similarity in nature were brought together and their similarities were tried to be revealed. At the end of the research, the motifs are shown in a table form.
Türk sanatının kökenleri yüzyıllar öncesine dayanır. Sağlam ve derin temeller üzerine kurulan sanatımız, farklı medeniyetlerin kültürüyle yoğrulmuş, dünya sanat tarihine yön vermiştir. Anadolu Selçuklular dönemi eşsiz eserlerinin ortaya çıktığı dönemlerden birisidir. Muhteşem desen tasarımlarının, özellikle geometrik bezemelerin ağırlıkta olduğu görülür. Kompozisyonlarda stilize bitkisel ve hayvansal figürler de kullanılmıştır. Bitkisel grup içinde yer alan penç motifleri çiçeklerin tepeden görünüşlerinin stilize biçimleridir. Çalışmada Anadolu Selçuklular’dan günümüze ulaşmış maden, dokuma, deri, taş, ahşap ve çini eserler incelenmiştir. İlk bakışta geometrik bir şekil gibi gözüken ve çiçek motifi olabileceği düşünülmeyen figürlerin tabiattaki benzerinin bulunması amaçlanmıştır. Motiflerin bitkilerden esinlenilerek yapılmış olabileceği ispat edilmek istenmiştir. Bu amaçla penç motifi olduğu düşünülen birçok eser incelenmiş, ancak burada sadece 19 tane tarihi esere yer verilebilmiştir. Çiçekler ve motiflerin kıyaslanmasında taç yaprak sayıları ve şekilleri temel alınmıştır. Figür ve tabiattaki benzeri yan yana getirilmiş, benzerlikleri gözler önüne serilmeye çalışılmıştır. Araştırmanın sonunda motifler tablo şeklinde gösterilmiştir.
