Araştırma kapsamında kent ormanları, parklar, meydanlar, sahil bandı-kıyı düzenlemeleri ve şev-refüj düzenlemelerini kapsayan on kentsel yeşil alan incelenmiş, arazi çalışmalarında 42 familyaya ait 111 takson tespit edilmiştir.

<p>Flowering plants and pollinating insects have co-evolved over millions of years, and consequently, most plants depend on biotic pollination. Factors such as habitat loss, the spread of exotic species, urban heat island effects, and environmental pollution have led to significant declines in pollinator populations, posing major threats to ecosystem function, biodiversity, and food security. Although urban areas cannot fully replace natural habitats, with appropriate planning and plant selection, they can be transformed into functional habitats for pollinators. This study aims to evaluate the pollination potential of ornamental plants used in urban green spaces in Istanbul by identifying their morphological and ecological characteristics. In addition to floristic analyses based on field observations and project data, the ecological and morphological traits of plant taxa were examined. Species diversity, richness, evenness, dominance, and spatial similarity were analyzed using ecological indices (Shannon–Wiener, Margalef, Pielou, Berger–Parker, and Jaccard). The research encompassed ten public green areas, including urban forests, parks, squares, coastal landscapes, and slope–median arrangements. Field surveys identified 111 taxa belonging to 42 families. The highest taxonomic representation was observed in the Rosaceae and Lamiaceae families, and 62.2% of all taxa were found to provide both pollen and nectar resources. Urban forests and coastal landscapes were the richest sites for pollinators, whereas the high proportion of exotic species (69.4%) across all sites may restrict native pollinators’ access to food sources, thereby limiting pollination processes and ecosystem function. Keywords: Urban green spaces, pollinator-friendly plants, biodiversity, urban planting, exotic species</p></trans-abstract>
